Greencroft Bottling is one of the largest contract wine bottlers in the UK, working with some of the world’s leading wine companies. The Durham-based company’s world-class facility can pack up to 95,000 bottles, boxes and cans per hour.
J&B Recycling started working with Greencroft Bottling in 2015 after a re-evaluation of its existing supplier. Due to the nature of the business, the company needed a supplier who could deal with their array of recycling needs quickly and effectively.
Darren Little, Assistant Warehouse Manager for Greencroft Bottling, said: “Our recycling services are extensive, including glass, paper, cardboard, plastic, wood, etc, and our needs vary from shift to shift. If any of the recycling skips get full during production it could directly impact our business, but thanks to J&B Recycling this is never an issue. We have secured a recycling partner who is flexible, understanding of our unique business needs, and cost effective.
“So far working with them has been really easy, which is exactly what we need. From the proposal stage, the team has been enthusiastic, knowledgeable and efficient. We were slightly worried about the initial supplier change-over, but it was seamless, with J&B dropping off the first skip within a couple of hours of our previous supplier removing theirs.
“We’re in touch with J&B daily and the team are always happy to help. The drivers are skilled and friendly, and the office staff extremely helpful; no request is too difficult. J&B has certainly made our recycling process a lot easier to manage. There’s not a worry about when or if things are going to be done, we’re confident that any request is actioned as soon as possible. We know in emergencies we can email late afternoon and receive a skip the next day.”
Greencroft Bottling’s relationship with J&B has helped it to achieve a range of business objectives, including environmental sustainability, reduction of its carbon footprint, and additional income generation.
Darren concluded: “Environmental sustainability is important to us and our Durham site is predominantly powered by renewable wind energy, generated by our three on-site wind turbines. Recycling is a core element of our sustainability objective.
“Through working with J&B we have turned a cost-heavy element of our business into a revenue stream. J&B’s rates are extremely competitive and the team has worked with us to identify effective cost-generating recycling programmes – in some cases doubling what we previously received.”
