This National Apprenticeship Week, we’re celebrating the brilliant apprentices who are shaping the future of J&B Recycling. Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Lucy, who joined us back in September 2022 and has already made such an impact in her role as a Customer Service Apprentice.
Lucy’s Journey with J&B Recycling
Lucy started her journey with us as a Weighbridge Operator, weighing wagons, logging data, and lending a hand with admin tasks in our Accounts team. Fast forward to June 2024, and Lucy stepped into the role of Customer Service Assistant. Now, she’s working towards her Level 3 Customer Service Apprenticeship through Hartlepool FE, combining real-world experience with learning to grow her skills.
"Starting my apprenticeship has been such an amazing opportunity. I’m excited to keep building my skills while doing a job I really enjoy."
The Day-to-Day of a Customer Service Apprentice
In her role, Lucy is at the heart of our operations. From allocating jobs to route sheets to resolving customer queries and keeping things running smoothly, she’s always ready to tackle the day’s challenges.
"The best part of my job is solving problems and making customers happy. It’s so rewarding to know I’ve made a difference."
Her role involves close coordination the Transport and Sales teams, ensuring everything stays on track. Whether she’s rerouting a collection or navigating the busy Christmas period, Lucy’s problem-solving skills and dedication help keep things moving efficiently.
Why Lucy Loves J&B Recycling
For Lucy, it’s not just the job that makes J&B Recycling special - it’s the team.
"Everyone here is so supportive, and having Ingrid as my mentor has been incredible. Her guidance has helped me grow so much in my role."
She also appreciates how her previous experience - working at her family’s ice cream shop - prepared her for this role.
"Interacting with customers and managing orders taught me so much about communication, and it’s been great to carry those skills into my current job."
Learning and Growing Along the Way
Lucy has already achieved so much, from developing strong customer service skills to taking part in life-saving defibrillator and CPR training "I’ve learned how to stay calm under pressure, and that’s been a huge help in my role. I love that every day is a little different, and I’m always learning something new."
More Than Just a Job
Outside of work, Lucy spends time with her dog Coco, loves socialising with friends, and enjoys life in Hartlepool and Newcastle. Her energy and enthusiasm shines both inside and outside of the office.
This National Apprenticeship Week, we’re so proud to highlight Lucy’s journey and the amazing work she’s doing at J&B Recycling. Apprenticeships don’t just build careers - they help us grow as a team and as a business.
