Brave Linda Lines is throwing herself off the Tees Transporter Bridge – to help a woman who she’s never met.
The J&B Recycling Purchase Ledger from Hartlepool is now looking for people to sponsor her abseil to raise funds for the husband of Facebook friend Lisa Dipper, who is hoping to undergo self-funded treatment for a rare cancer.
The pair met on a Facebook group set up for women to discuss caravanning.
Linda, 46, said: “I have never met her in person but I absolutely know that she would do the same for me if I found myself in that situation.
“We are like a family. We go on the group and talk about our lives, our families and any problems that we might have. Whatever is going on we share it on there.”
In June last year Lisa’s husband Nick was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, a rare cancer behind his nose.
Although radiotherapy and chemotherapy initially tackled the cancer in February the pair – who are parents to twin boys, aged three - found out that the cancer had spread.
The family is now aiming to raise £140,000 for immunotherapy, as it’s not currently available on the NHS for this form of cancer.
More than £40,000 has been raised in little over three weeks and members of the Facebook group ‘Girlie Caravanning’ are hosting fundraising events across the UK – from raffles to marathons.
Linda, who is mum to Jamie, 16, and partner to Geoff, 42, a HGV driver, has already raised £300 with the help of friends, family and colleagues at J&B Recycling ahead of her jump on May 19 at 11am.
She added: “I’ve never done anything like it before and I am nervous!
“But just knowing that I’m supporting such a good cause will give me that push I need.”
