Over the 20 years I have been with J&B Recycling, my role has changed and grown significantly. Through training and promotions, I have worked in most departments from HGV driving through to managing the operations and staff at the South Tees site. Now I deliver training across all sites. It feels great to know that I have contributed to the growth and success, and I am part of a company who are forward thinking, innovative and committed to investing for the future.

I started as an office junior with J&B Recycling over 18 years ago. Being involved with the development of the business and various large projects has provided fantastic opportunities for personal progression. From working on the weighbridge, transport, facilities, environmental, quality, and now operations, I truly feel I have grown with the business. I joined J&B Recycling as Transport Manager in July 2022. Having started my career in the British Army, I developed a keen interest in transport and logistics. I didn’t know much about the recycling industry when I applied for the role, but felt it was full of opportunity. Every day I learn something new about how materials are recycled. I am surrounded by a strong, supportive team and there is a feel-good factor of knowing you are doing something positive to help the environment.

My career in finance began 20 years ago when I started out as a business admin and accounts professional in Stokesley. My next chapter spanned 11½ years at a Stockton-based company, where I honed my skills in payroll and VAT. I joined J&B Recycling as a Sales Ledger and Administrator in September 2019 and have recently been promoted to Finance Team Leader.

Before joining J&B Recycling, I worked at a national bank and then as a mortgage advisor at a local estate agent. But when the opportunity at J&B Recycling popped up, it was a no-brainer for me. It meant I could have that perfect work-life balance and spend more cherished moments with my two adorable young sons. J&B Recycling lured me in with its part-time role, juggling work and family is tough, but here, I've found the flexibility I need, especially with two little ones in the picture.

"At TMD Friction, I was eventually put forward for a role within the health & safety team by the Health & Safety Manager at the beginning of lockdown in 2020. When the role of Health & Safety Officer came up at J&B Recycling, I felt it was time to move on to a new challenge. Professionally, I have gained lots of experience. There are some similarities to my previous role, but overall, it is very different."

"Since joining J&B Recycling as a Transport Coordinator in 2019, I've been dedicated to ensuring our operations run smoothly across the North East. My previous role as Logistics Manager at Leader Online gave me valuable experience in client relations and logistics, which has been instrumental in my current position. I’m passionate about sustainability both at work and in my personal life, actively seeking ways to reduce my environmental footprint. While I share a name with a famous musician, my focus here at J&B Recycling is on making a real difference in our operations and our commitment to the environment."

I’m a Forklift Driver at the Windermere Road site. My role focuses on loading wagons with bales of material for reprocessing, helping ensure efficient transportation and contributing to sustainable recycling efforts.
- Weighbridge Officer
I joined J&B Recycling when I started college as a Weighbridge Operator, where I manage the weighing of wagons and ensure all data is accurately recorded. It’s been a great experience so far! Outside of work, I’m a fashion student at the Northern School of Art, and I love shopping and spending time with my friends.
- Accounts Administrator
I joined J&B Recycling in March of 2024 as an Accounts Administrator and have really enjoyed settling into my role. My main responsibilities include updating ledgers, managing invoices, and ensuring payments are on track. I’m excited to contribute to strengthening the accounts function and supporting the team’s efficiency!

I joined J&B Recycling 16 years ago, starting in collections where I managed customer accounts and invoices. Now, I work in material sales and compliance, overseeing the materials entering and leaving the yard. What I love most about J&B is the amazing team—everyone is so helpful and always there when I need them!

Starting in the industry at 16 on my father’s weighbridge, I never imagined the journey would lead here. When the coal sector declined, I saw an opportunity to innovate with waste collection and glass recycling. 25 years later, I’m proud to lead a thriving company making a £28m impact in UK waste management!

Being the Site Manager at Baltic Street is all about the people and the processes that make everything run smoothly. I take pride in supporting my team, helping them develop their skills, and ensuring we work together efficiently to achieve our goals. As a Line Supervisor, I’m proud to lead a team that plays such a crucial role in the recycling process. We work hard to remove any contaminants missed by the machines, making sure the quality of our output is top-notch. It’s rewarding to know that our efforts help maintain high standards and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
- Weighbridge operator
I’ve been with J&B Recycling for 14 years, and it’s incredible to see how much we’ve grown—from handling just 12 wagons a day to now managing 70 and more. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work across all our sites, including some that are now closed, and I’ve trained most of the staff currently working on the weighbridge. It’s been an amazing journey, and when I’m not at work, I enjoy spending quality time with my grandchildren and my wife, Myra.
- Marketing Assistant
I first joined J&B Recycling through a work experience placement, and I’ve been lucky to grow with the company ever since. I took the opportunity to do a marketing apprenticeship, which I recently completed with a distinction. Now as a Marketing Assistant, I’m excited to continue learning and am looking forward to pursuing my degree apprenticeship within the company. I absolutely love my office and the environment here, especially with the recent introduction of FCC Environment—it’s great to be part of a company that’s so committed to sustainability.

I originally joined J&B Recycling as the Marketing Manager, managing our social media and website. Over time, I’ve transitioned into a role on the sales side, and I’ve really enjoyed the change.
