J&B Recycling is the leading waste management partner for Dry Mixed Recycling (DMR) in North East England. Our award-winning Material Recovery Facility (MRF), combined with our own fleet of licensed waste carriers and experienced waste management team enables us to provide the most competitive recycling rates in the area, while upholding fully compliant and environmentally responsible waste management practices. We provide a full end-to-end waste management and recycling service that produces the highest quality end-products with an industry leading 99% recycling rate.
Dry mixed recycling (also known as DMR) is a type of waste collection and processing system where clean recyclable materials of various types are collected together in a single wheelie bin or container. This may include paper, cardboard, plastics and metals. The recycling is then collected by a licensed waste carrier and transported to a recycling facility such as our Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Hartlepool, or one of our transfer stations in Middlesbrough (South Tees) or Washington. DMR is a convenient, cost-effective and responsible method of recycling and is highly effective for businesses in all industries, from hospitality and education settings to construction and retail.
At J&B Recycling, our award-winning Material Recovery Facility (MRF) sets us apart from competitors. Equipped with advanced sorting technology, our MRF efficiently receives, separates and prepares a wide range of recyclable materials, including paper, plastics, metals, and glass. By handling our own Dry Mixed Recycling, we ensure maximum recovery rates and compliance with environmental standards - and with our fleet of licensed waste carriers, we offer the most-competitive rates in the area for dry mixed recycling.
It is important to only put suitable materials into your DMR bin, to avoid contaminating the waste which makes the recycling process less efficient.

For household waste, glass should always be kept separate from dry mixed recycling to prevent contamination and in-line with the guidance from local authorities. Businesses that produce large quantities of glass, such as pubs and restaurants, should have a dedicated glass wheelie bin to separate their glass. For businesses that generate small amounts of glass, perhaps glass bottles and coffee jars used in the staffroom, we encourage these to be kept out of the general waste and are therefore able to collect them with the dry mixed recycling - although all lids should be removed from jars. Some waste collectors may not be able to manage glass in this way, but J&B Recycling’s advanced recovery systems enable us to safely separate the glass on-site for processing.
Utilising dry mixed recycling helps businesses reduce both their environmental impact and the costs associated with waste disposal. Making recycling more efficient and boosting recycling rates helps reduce waste to landfill, cuts carbon emissions and promotes a circular economy and. Recycling is also more cost-effective than general waste disposal, helps businesses reach their sustainability goals and has the added benefit of rebate schemes and initiatives for waste streams meeting certain criteria.
When waste is contaminated, either by incorrect materials being placed in the recycling, or by the materials not being clean, the recycling process becomes inefficient, more labour-intensive and costly. To prevent waste contamination, all recyclables should be clean. This includes rinsing all food and drink containers. Any paper or cardboard containing grease or liquid, including pizza boxes, should not enter the dry mixed recycling process.
At J&B Recycling, we prioritise compliance and quality by working closely with governing agencies to ensure we meet the highest standards in recycling. Our operations are fully licensed and certified, including ISO accreditations, guaranteeing exceptional service and adherence to regulations.
80% of the materials we process remain in the UK, supporting local industries and minimising our carbon footprint. We work with the best re-processors, many of whom are internationally recognised for their high standards. This commitment ensures that the materials we handle are recycled responsibly and efficiently, contributing to a sustainable and circular economy.
